Currie Country Social Change Aboriginal Corporation

Our Mission

Currie Country Social Change's mission is to support, promote, and act on First Nations-led solutions that build a strong community and financial base for community development activities and infrastructure needs.

We strive to be a think tank resource for the whole community and stakeholders, facilitating the exchange of information and skills and promoting participation and maintenance of cultural community development activities, community services, employment, education, environmental care and stewardship, and housing for the community. We are committed to being in the business of solutions that empower and improve the lives of Indigenous peoples in Northern NSW and SE QLD regions.

Currie Country Social Change aim is clear -

We are in the business of solutions

Support

We support First Nations solutions, and community enterprises that build a strong community and financial base for community development activities and infrastructure needs.

Promote

We promote First Nations-led solutions in community development by acting as a think tank resource for the whole community and stakeholders in the areas of education, environment, health, housing, employment, and social and spiritual enrichment of the whole community.

Act

We act as a think tank to facilitate the exchange of information and skills, participation and maintenance of cultural community development activities, community services, employment, education and environmental care and stewardship and housing for the community.

We are in the business of solutions

Currie Country Social Change was established in response to fires, and an identified need for a First Nations controlled and managed charitable organisation in Bundjalung Country operating with an Aboriginal worldview dedicated to environmental, cultural and economic sustainability.

WHO WE ARE

Currie Country Social Change - Founded by descendants of the original custodians of parts of the Tweed and SE Queensland, members of the Bundjalung and Yugambeh Nations, Currie Country Social Change seeks to open pathways for intergenerational change through a sustainable future:

  • economic participation

  • environmental and natural resource management and

  • spiritual connection to country.

    We seek to:

  • To lead for the benefit of all

  • To help others change their views

Currie Country Social Change will support and engage in culturally-centred advocacy for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples in the Northern NSW and SE Qld regions, where that advocacy will assist in improving the circumstances of vulnerable community members.

Currie Country Social Change is deeply connected to multiple clans of the Bundjalung and Yugembeh Nations and across NSW and QLD and other Nations and territories throughout Australia.

Currie County Social Change has regular dialogue with local and regional organisations in order to understand service delivery gaps and to be able to collaborate on the design and delivery of programs, from housing to social and community development, that will ensure that First Nations peoples are supported and lifted into thriving independence.
